MESA VERDE

These amazing cliff dwellings were occupied up until about 1100 AD, when the climate became too dry to support the population, and the people moved down to New Mexico along the river.

The ruins were discovered about 100 years ago, and have been restored to some extent, giving an idea of what the dwellings were like.

These images come from the two largest habitations – so-called Cliff Palace and Spruce House.
